Hubbard is a city in Trumbull County in the state of Ohio in the United States . The population was 8,284 at the 2000 census .
history
The city is named after the merchant Nehemiah Hubbard Jr. from Middletown , Connecticut , who in 1795 acquired land from the Connecticut Western Reserve that was later called Hubbard Township. Nehemiah Hubbard sold the first property to Samuel Tylee, a Connecticut land surveyor who helped him measure the land and sell it to other settlers.
Until 1861, Hubbard was nothing more than an intersection of two country roads with a few houses. However, when the coal deposits were discovered in the area, the small settlement quickly became an independent municipality. By 1868, Hubbard had reached enough residents to be recognized as a separate municipality within the township.

On May 31, 1985, a tornado destroyed several buildings in Hubbard. The hurricane had a strength of F5 on the Fujita scale , which means a speed of 400 to 500 km / h. He came from the west, from Newton Falls and Lordstown , then moved on to Niles , where he killed several people, and finally came to Hubbard. From here it swept south of Masury and caused the greatest destruction in neighboring Wheatland , Pennsylvania, where numerous factories were destroyed. There is also a private Catholic school in Hubbard, Saint Patrick's Roman Catholic School , offering grades 1-8. This school is part of Saint Patrick's Catholic Church , a parish in the Diocese of Youngstown .

As of the 2000 census, Hubbard had 8,284 people. Apart from 1 person living in collective accommodation, the residents lived in 3456 households and 2322 families. The population density was 927 inhabitants per square kilometer. 3666 residential units were recorded. The racial the population was composed of 98.08 percent white, 0.92 percent African American, 0.11 percent Native American, 0.14 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.14 percent from others ethnic groups; 0.59 percent said ancestry from several races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.46 percent of the population.
Of the 3,457 households, 28.0 percent had children or young people living with them. 53.7 percent were married couples living together, 10.2 percent were single mothers, and 32.8 percent were non-families. 30.0 percent were single households and 15.1 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.99 people.
The population was distributed among 23.2 percent under 18 years, 7.6 percent from 18 to 24 years, 26.2 percent from 25 to 44 years, 24.7 percent from 45 to 64 years and 18.3 percent from 65 years or older. The mean age ( median ) was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 89.7 males and for every 100 adult females aged 18 and over there were 85.1 males.
The median income for a household (median) was 34 657 US $ , and the median income for a family $ 42,077. Males had a median income of $ 34,572 and females $ 25,052. The per capita income was $ 19,838. 5.3 percent of families and 8.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line, including 15.4 percent of residents under the age of 18 and 4.8 percent of residents aged 65 or older.
