Hubert Steiner

Hubert Steiner (born September 28, 1957 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian historian .

Life

In 1976 Hubert Steiner graduated from the second federal high school in Klagenfurt. From 1976 to 1984 he studied history , ancient history and archeology at the Karl-Franzens-University in Graz . In his dissertation, he dealt with the city of Klagenfurt during the First World War .

Hubert Steiner has been employed at the Austrian State Archives in Vienna since 1987 , where he looks after the files of the Federal Ministry of Finance of the First and Second Republic. In 1990, as a result of the Waldheim affair, he and his colleague Christian Kucsera began to electronically record part of the inventory of the National Socialist property transaction office , the property registrations . More than 50,000 data records were brought into the form of the finding aid right as wrong . His work closely connects him with the National Fund of the Republic of Austria for Victims of National Socialism and the contact point of the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Wien for Jewish victims of Nazi persecution. From 1998 to 2003 he made his contribution to the work of the Austrian Commission of Historians .

Hubert Steiner gave lectures on his scientific work in Vienna , Cologne , Berlin , Warsaw , Jerusalem , Chicago , New York , Minsk and Moscow on the subject of asset deprivation and restitution in Austria.
