Company history

The Humana Milchunion was 1 January 1998 by fusion of Western Milk Union eG , Everswinkel and Milchwerke Westfalen eG , Herford. For the history of Milchwerke Westfalen, see Humana GmbH . This also added the coastal milk union Mecklenburg-Vorpommern GmbH , Milchwerke Thüringen GmbH , Milchwerke Oder-Spree GmbH and Euro Cheese Vertriebs-GmbH to the group of companies. Since then, numerous other takeovers have taken place, including the private dairy Borgmann GmbH & Co. KG , the Sanobub plant in Recke (both 2001) and Satro Milchwerk Lippstadt GmbH & Co. KG (2002; later Satro GmbH). In 2003 the sales company Gastoline GmbH (large consumer service) was founded as a joint venture with Hansa Milch , and in 2004 the dairy headquarters Westfalen-Lippe GmbH (Münster) including its subsidiary intact GmbH was taken over. In 2004, Mopro-Nord (now wheyco GmbH ) was founded in Altentreptow as a joint venture with Nordmilch eG in the whey division , and a processing center was built in 2005. In 2006 the Bremen-based Biolabor zur Manufacturing Pharmaceutical Products GmbH & Co.KG was acquired.

Close cooperation partner was the Hansa Milch AG , Upahl (brand: " Hansano "). The cooperation agreement ran until 2008. From November 2006 to February 2007 there was also a cooperation agreement with the Milch-Union Hocheifel eG (MUH), Pronsfeld, with the aim of a merger. However, after the farmers of Hansa Milch rejected a planned merger of all three companies to form Germany's largest milk processor in February 2007, the cooperation agreement between Humana Milchunion and MUH was terminated shortly afterwards , mainly due to strong resistance from the ranks of the MUH farmers. After the failure of the merger plans, the group is to be rebuilt in the near future and the existing sales cooperation with Hansa Milch is to be continued. In December 2007, Humana Milchunion eG parted with its ingredients business and sold its subsidiary Satro GmbH to Campina . With the sale, the Humana Group wants to focus more strategically.

The concept for the corporate restructuring of the Humana Milchunion Group was adopted on November 27, 2008. The entire operational dairy business of Humana Milchunion eG, Milchwerke Thüringen GmbH and coastal land Milchunion Mecklenburg-Vorpommern GmbH, in which Humana Milchunion eG has a majority stake, was combined in one company. The new corporate structure was achieved through the leasing of the business operations of Humana Milchunion eG, Milchwerke Thüringen GmbH and Meeresland Milchunion GmbH to the new joint subsidiary, Humana Milchindustrie GmbH (HMI).

On February 3, 2011, Nordmilch AG approved the merger with Humana Milchunion. The companies were brought together under the name Deutsches Milchkontor GmbH (DMK). This made DMK the sixth largest milk processor in Europe. The legal seat is in Zeven , Lower Saxony , the management and central administration in Everswinkel .

On June 24, 2016, it became known that the Herford Humana plant for baby food had been sold to the Bavarian family company Hipp .
