IC 1454 is a planetary nebula in the constellation Cepheus in the northern sky , which is listed in the index catalog . The entry in the index catalog cites a report by the astronomer William Frederick Denning from 1890 as the source, but neither coordinates nor zodiac signs coincide.
George Ogden Abell recognized that this object is a planetary nebula and cataloged it in 1955 and in its final form in 1966. It is recorded as the 81st entry and the distance is determined to be 2.514 kpc . The distance of the mist was determined in the following with different methods, which lead to results between 4 and 12 kpc; an L 5 -T B analysis from 2004 indicates a distance of 5.29 kpc, corresponding to around 17,000 light years .
