IC 1459 is an elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Crane in the southern sky . It is an estimated 81 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 125,000 light years in diameter.
Together with NGC 7418 , NGC 7421 , IC 5270 , PGC 70070 and PGC 70253 , it forms the IC 1459 group .
The property was discovered by Edward Barnard in 1892 .
