NGC 7421 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Crane in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 80 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light-years across.
The galaxies NGC 7418 , IC 1459 , IC 5264 , IC 5273 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on August 30, 1834 by John Herschel with his 18.7 inch reflector telescope and later added by Johan Dreyer to his New General Catalog .
