NGC 7417 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Toucan in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 138 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 100,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies IC 5266 and IC 5272 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on July 20, 1835 .
