NGC 7426 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E2 in the constellation Lizard at the northern sky . It is estimated to be 247 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 120,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 7440 .
The object was discovered on October 18, 1786 by the astronomer William Herschel .
