NGC 7440 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Andromeda in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 262 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 105,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 7426 .
The object was discovered on October 9, 1876 by the astronomer Édouard Stephan .
