IC 2271 (also KUG 0815 + 246 ) is a blue compact dwarf galaxy ( blue compact dwarf galaxy ) in the constellation Cancer on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 96 million light years from the Milky Way and about 10,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 501 , IC 2267 , IC 2268 , IC 2282 .
The object was discovered by Max Wolf on January 9, 1901 .
