IC 2256 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Cancer on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 92 million light years from the Milky Way and about 25,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 2249 and IC 2271 .
The object was discovered by Max Wolf on January 9, 1901 .
