IC 2256 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Cancer on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 92 million light years from the Milky Way and about 25,000 light years in diameter.

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 2249 and IC 2271 .

The object was discovered by Max Wolf on January 9, 1901 .
