Ian Gelder

Ian Gelder (born June 3, 1949 ) is a British actor .

Life

Gelder began his career as a stage actor and starred alongside Julian Glover and Gareth Hunt in Peter Shaffer's The Royal Hunt of the Sun at the Theater Royal in Bristol in 1969 . In 1972 he made his first television appearance with a guest role in the television series A Case for Scotland Yard . In 1973 and 1975 he played the role of Dave Dent in the miniseries The Donati Conspiracy and State of Emergency . He has appeared with the Royal Shakespeare Company since 1977 and played in the Shakespeare productions Was ihr wollt , The Merchant of Venice and The Taming of the Shrew . He also starred in the musical The Sound of Music and in a production of Arthur Miller's Witch Hunt , which won the 2007 Olivier Award .

Gelder has been involved in various British television productions known in Germany such as Die Profis , Agatha Christie's Poirot and Torchwood since the early 1970s . His feature film roles include appearances in the US comedy film King Ralph with John Goodman and Peter O'Toole , Klein Dorrit based on the novel by Charles Dickens and the German film production Die Päpstin von Sönke Wortmann .

Gelder lives with the actor Ben Daniels .
