Ian James Walker (born February 25, 1970 in Worcester ) is a British sailor .
successes
Ian Walker took part in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta with John Merricks in the 470 dinghy part. They took second place behind Jewhen Braslawez and Ihor Matvijenko and in front of Hugo Rocha and Nuno Barreto . With a total of 60 points, they received the silver medal. In the same year they took third place at the European Championships and became vice world champions together in Porto Alegre . On October 15, 1997, Merricks was killed in a traffic accident when the driver of a Land Rover, which included Merricks and Walker, lost control of his car. Walker qualified for the following 2000 Games in Sydney with Mark Covell in the boat class Star . Just one point behind, they won the silver medal behind the Americans Magnus Liljedahl and Mark Reynolds .
In the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009 he was the skipper of the Green Dragon , with which he finished fifth. As the skipper of the Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing Team , he was first again fifth in the Volvo Ocean Race 2011–2012 , before winning the Volvo Ocean Race 2014–2015 overall. He also took part in the America's Cup several times in various functions .
Walker is married and has two children.
