If You Were a Movie, This Would Be Your Soundtrack is an acoustic - EP of American post-hardcore band Sleeping with Sirens from Grand Rapids , Michigan .

It is the group's first EP and third release overall and was released on June 26, 2012 via Rise Records . The EP contains a total of five tracks.

Backstory

In December 2011 it was announced that the group was working on an acoustic release. On May 24th 2012 the title, the artwork, the title list and the expected release date were announced. The EP, which contains five tracks, is called If You Were a Movie, This Would Be Your Soundtrack and should be released on June 26, 2012 via Rise Records .

Two songs on the EP are from the debut album With Ears to See and Eyes to Hear while the rest of the songs have been rewritten. The group also builds acoustic pieces into their live sets. At the beginning of the band career, Quinn and Jesse Lawson played smaller acoustic sets after their concerts in the hope of being able to differentiate themselves musically from other genre colleagues. As a result, the songs were gradually shown in modest quality on the video platform Youtube . The musicians wanted to record the pieces on a professional level to be able to offer the fans a better sound quality.

Reviews

Jason Lymangrover from Allmusic wrote about the EP that the instrumentation is geared towards the vocals of Kellin Quinn , which was only slightly edited. The song Don't You Ever Forget About Me , in which Quinn sings a duet with Jessica Ess , would, in his opinion, fit well in a romantic comedy .

Scott Heisel of the US American Alternative Press sees acoustic releases mainly as “fillers” that are there to fulfill signed record deals. He wrote that most of these publications hardly give any thought to the arrangements and the choice of tracks. However, according to Heisel, Sleeping with Sirens manages to break this vicious circle and land a real success. Quinn delivered strong, R&B- influenced vocals over 18 minutes . The songs are fun on several levels. As an example, he cites the gang vocals in Stomach Tied in Knots which he compares to The Maine . The guitar playing reaches the spheres of Saosin , while the singing is reminiscent of Jimmy Eat World at times.
