Igelsdorf is the northernmost part of the municipality Rednitzhembach in the district of Roth in Middle Franconia ( Bavaria ).

Geographical location

The village is located three and a half kilometers south of Schwabach on a hill between the valleys of the Mainbach , which flows south, and the Rednitz, which runs east . To the west is the extensive Maisenlach forest area .

history

The area with its easy to cultivate, sandy soils was already settled in the Neolithic . In the immediate vicinity there are settlement and burial sites from the Urnfield Period , the Hallstatt Period and the Latène Period . At the turn of the times, the area was the southernmost branch of the Narisker settlement area . On Hembacher Strasse, prehistoric burial places are designated as ground monuments on an area of 1200 m² .

The settlement was abandoned in Roman times. The Limes was only a day's march away and times were getting too restless. There are no findings from the time of the Great Migration . They only set in sporadically with the Carolingian period, when the area belonged to the Sualafeldgau .

The economic revival of the area dates back to the 11th and 12th centuries. The oldest structure still preserved today is a stable house in Schwabacher Strasse, which dates from 1768. In the Bavarian original cadastre from 1808 Igelsdorf is a hamlet with eight properties. Two other buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved and are now listed .

today

Until the post-war period , Igelsdorf took up an area of around two hectares, almost unchanged . Since the construction boom that began in the 1960s, the place has grown to 76 hectares today through new settlements and an industrial park in the north. To the north the development has merged with the Schwabachs, to the south with the Plöckendorfs .

traffic

State road 2409 Igelsdorf bounds northeast and connects the place with Rednitzhembach and Schwabach. The A 6 motorway runs 1.5 km to the north , and there is also a driveway there (AS 56 Schwabach-Süd).

In local public transport , Igelsdorf is supplied with the S-Bahn line 2 at the Rednitzhembach stop every 20 minutes.
