Ignaz Johann Theodor Freiherr Freyschlag von Freyenstein (born July 12, 1827 in Landau an der Isar , † November 11, 1891 in Munich ) was a Bavarian lieutenant general and head of the secret chancellery of Prince Regent Luitpold .

Life

He came from a branch of the Catholic, Lower Austrian noble family Freyschlag von Freyenstein, who settled in Bavaria and had it registered in the kingdom's register of nobility in 1813. In 1887 the family rose to become barons .

Ignaz was the son of the regional court judge Johann Nepomuk Freyschlag von Freyenstein, attended high school and studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1847 Freyschlag became a member of the Corps Bavaria Munich . In 1848 he joined the Bavarian Army . He was promoted to lieutenant , in 1859 to first lieutenant in the 1st Infantry Regiment "König" . In 1866 he was promoted to captain , in 1873 to major , in 1877 to lieutenant colonel and in 1882 to colonel . From 1886 he was major general and from 1889 lieutenant general.

Even as a subaltern officer, Freyschlag was the personal adjutant of Prince Luitpold and, after his assumption of office as Inspector General of the Army (1866), also as an adjutant of this department. In 1870/71 he took part in the Franco-German War as such . After Luitpold took office as Prince Regent, Freyschlag was appointed Adjutant General and head of the secret chancellery. In November 1891 he died of a stroke .

Awards

Freyschlag was raised to the hereditary baron status of the Kingdom of Bavaria on January 7, 1887. He was a treasurer , since 1886 Knight of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown , since 1889 holder of the Order of Merit of St. Michael I Class and had received the Grand Commander of the Order of Military Merit . He also wore the Order of the Crown, First Class with diamonds, the Order of the Iron Crown, First Class, as well as other high orders and decorations .
