The Hunter (Original title: Il Cacciatore , alternative title: Il Cacciatore: The Hunter ) is an Italian television series , based on the autobiographical novel Cacciatore di mafiosi published in 2008 . Le indagini, i pedinamenti, gli arresti di un magistrato in prima linea by the Italian judge Alfonso Sabella .
action
season 1
The action of the series begins in 1993 in Sicily after the murder of the Italian " Mafia hunters" Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino and the subsequent imprisonment of the client Salvatore "Totò" Riina - head of the " Corleonesi " and " boss of the bosses " of the Sicilian Cosa Nostra and the subsequent bombings on tourist attractions of mainland Italy by allies of Riina.
The focus of the plot is a committed public prosecutor from Termini Imerese named Saverio Barone, who is called up to the DIA and, together with several public prosecutors, leads investigations against other people involved in the assassination attempt on Giovanni Falcone and against the leadership of the Cosa Nostra. In the course of the investigation, Barone regularly reflects on formative events in his past that help him achieve success.
In order to intimidate a former mafioso named Santino Di Matteo , who is now an important key witness , his son Giuseppe is kidnapped and kept hidden by members of the Cosa Nostra. The kidnapper was Leoluca "Don Luchino" Bagarella , who has been in command of the military wing of the Cosa Nostra since Totò Riina's imprisonment and who is considered the main mastermind behind the 1993 bombings. Thanks to the coordinated work of the DIA, Bagarella can finally be imprisoned and the investigations henceforth increasingly focus on Giovanni “u verru” Brusca , the high-ranking mafioso who is responsible for the accommodation of the kidnapped Giuseppe Di Matteo and whose young life has been for two years holds in his hands.
season 2
The second season begins in 1996. After the arrest of Leoluca Bagarella, the lawyer Barone learns of the hiding place of Giovanni Brusca, who has risen to become the new head of the Mafia. Barone not only wants to pick up the new godfather, but also free the kidnapped boy Giuseppe di Matteo.
