The Ilyushin Il-20 ( Russian Ильюшин Ил-20 ) was a Soviet attack aircraft design . The single-engine all-metal two-seater was designed in 1948 and was not mass-produced.
development
Work began in 1947. The hull was armored with 15 mm thick sheet steel. To improve visibility while the bomb was being dropped in level flight, the pilot's cockpit was relocated to the bow of the fuselage, directly above the engine. The first flight through Vladimir Kokkinaki took place at the end of 1948.
The project was not pursued any further in the beginning jet engine era.

The Il-20 is not to be confused with the much better known ECM / ELINT variant of the Ilyushin Il-18 , see Ilyushin Il-20 .
Also referred to as the Il-20 is a civil version of the tactical bomber Ilyushin Il-28 , which was used by Aeroflot as a cargo aircraft around the mid-1960s .
