The Ilyushin Il-30 tactical bomber ( Russian Ильюшин Ил-30 ) was part of a series of several further developments of the Soviet Il-28 . Work on the Il-30 began near Ilyushin in mid-1948, shortly after the Il-28 had flown for the first time. However, due to the introduction of the Tu-16 into military service, it was not taken over into series production.

development

The most obvious changes in contrast to the Il-28 were the swept wings, each with four boundary layer fences , with a leading edge swept of 30 ° and the tandem landing gear. This consisted of two main wheels with double tires, which were arranged one behind the other in the fuselage, as well as two small support wheels that were integrated into the engine nacelles. The arrow-shaped normal tail unit had been taken over from the Il-28, as was the pressurized cabin.

The first design work for this middle decker began in 1948, in September 1949 the first high-speed ground tests with the prototype began by Vladimir Kokkinaki . There are contradicting information about the first flight. On the one hand, it is said not to have been carried out at all, since the project was discontinued on August 20, 1950 on government orders. Other sources speak of a first flight on September 9, 1949 with subsequent testing, which ended in 1952. In any case, the project was ultimately discontinued and Ilyushin subsequently concentrated on improving the Il-28, which was already in service.

As a successor model from 1952 Ilyushin developed the Il-54 , flown for the first time in 1955 , which was the first Soviet bomber to break the sound barrier. The Il-54 was not built in series either.
