Illumiut [ iɬːumiutˢʰ ] (the old spelling Igdlumiut ) is a desolate fallen Greenlandic settlement in the district Narsaq in kujalleq .

location

Illumiut is located on a peninsula on the north bank of the Ikersuaq (Bredefjord). The exact position of the settlement is not known, but was probably in a small bay of the same name on the southern tip. The distance to the next larger town Narsaq is 14 km to the south.

history

Illumiut was a residential area that was settled in 1855. Hinrich Johannes Rink wrote in 1857 that the only wealthy family in the whole area lived in Illumiut. In 1883 the residential area was abandoned again. No further information is known.
