Qorlortoq [ ˈqɔˌɬːɔtːɔq ] (according to the old spelling K'ordlortoĸ ) is a Greenlandic shepherd settlement in the district of Narsaq in the municipality of Kujalleq .

location

Qorlortoq is located about six kilometers north of Qassiarsuk on the delta of the river of the same name by the Tunulliarfik fjord . The nearest shepherd settlement in the south is Sammisoq , four kilometers away, while in the north it is Qinngua , which is also four kilometers away. In addition, with Qorlortup Itinnera there is another shepherd's settlement two kilometers to the west in the valley of the same name.

history

In Qorlortoq there are numerous ruins of the Grænlendingar , which can be assigned to a large farm and a church. These were discovered in two excavations in 1932 and 2001. Today Qorlortoq is one of the numerous shepherd settlements at the end of Tunulliarfik. A gravel road leads from Qorlortoq via the other shepherd settlements to Qassiarsuk and Narsarsuaq . Qorlortoq is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kujataa .

Population development

Until 1982 Qorlortoq was still one of the largest shepherd settlements in Greenland. Since then, the number of residents has fallen sharply and at times there was only one resident. The last known population of the shepherd settlements was for 2013. Qorlortoq is statistically listed under "Farms near Qassiarsuk".
