In Battle is a Viking / Death Metal band from Sundsvall , Sweden .
history
In the beginning the band consisted of John Frölén on guitar and bass, singer John Odhinn Sandin, Håkan Sjödin on guitar and bass and Otto Wiklund as drummer. Håkan Sjödin left the band a short time later to devote himself entirely to the black metal band Setherial . The first album In Battle was recorded at Sunlight Studio in Stockholm and was released on Napalm Records in 1997. The second album The Rage of the Northmen was released in March 1998. It was recorded at Ballerina Audio Studio in Umeå , Sweden. In 1999 Frölén was the only remaining member. In the same year he began writing new material for a third album. In 2002 he began to rehearse with Sandin (this time on drums). Shortly afterwards, he asked the guitarist Hasse Karlsson from Diabolical to join the band. In 2003 Aeon's Nils Fjellström replaced drummer Sandin. This occupied the post of singer again and the EP Soul Metamorphosis was created , which was created in Tore Stjerna's Necromorbus Studios in Stockholm . In 2004 the third album Welcome to the Battlefield (which was recorded in three different studios) was released by Cold Records and Metal Blade Records . The album was mixed and mastered by Erik Rutan ( Morbid Angel , Hate Eternal ). Rutan also contributed a guitar solo to the album. In April 2005, after the album was released, the band split from their label Cold Records. In 2006 In Battle signed a deal with Nocturnal Art Productions , the record company owned by Emperor guitarist Samoth , and work began on their fourth album, Kingdom of Fear . The album was released on September 3, 2007. In Battle is currently working on their fifth studio album, which is expected to be called Flames & Death .
Style and texts
Characteristic for the sound of the band are the borrowings from Black Metal and Viking Metal . The snare is particularly strongly emphasized here, whereby the blast beats characteristic of Death Metal occur rather rarely. In Battle is compared with bands like Hate Eternal , Behemoth , Myrkskog or Vader . In terms of content, her songs deal mainly with Nordic mythology and the subject of war .
