In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 is the second studio album by the American progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria . It tells the third part of the band concept The Amory Wars and was released in October 2003 by Equal Vision Records and Columbia Records .

Creation and publication

The debut album The Second Stage Turbine Blade was followed by numerous concerts in the USA. The second album was recorded in Woodstock, New York . Danny Louis (keyboard), Avalon Peacock, Julia Nichols and Rachel Havens (all vocals) were involved as guest musicians. From May 2010 the third part of the science fiction saga The Amory Wars, which was set to music on the album, was published as a comic series .

style

Coheed and Cambria play modern and straightforward progressive rock on the album with influences from glam rock , hard rock and heavy metal of the 1970s as well as modern varieties of alternative rock , progressive metal , emo and post-hardcore . Comparisons are occasionally made to bands like Queen , T. Rex , The Cars , Thin Lizzy , Rush , Jets to Brazil and The Mars Volta . The melodies are catchy and often have pop appeal, the vocals are high-pitched.

reception

The album was positively received by the press, reached number 52 in the US charts and was awarded a gold record by the RIAA . Allmusic's David Serra criticizes that the band missed their goal of creating an epic album. Christian Rode from Babyblauen Seiten , however, thinks that "[t] he disc rocks absolutely cool" and has "nothing to complain about". Peter Kubaschk from powermetal.de recommends In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 “simply to all friends of new, exciting albums that are progressive in the true sense of the word and something really new. And they should soon be captured by the fascination of this album. Great. ” Eclipsed magazine added the album to their list of prog metal milestones.
