In a Perfect World… is the debut album by the American singer and songwriter Keri Hilson . It went on sale in the US on March 24, 2009 after the label postponed its release several times in 2007 due to financial difficulties and other releases.

The album sold over 500,000 physical and digital copies in the United States and received gold status. Hilson received two Grammy nominations for this album. In the German-speaking countries, the "In a Perfect World - I Like Edition" was also released, which contained the song I Like , the theme song of the film Zweiohrküken . The first single from the album was Energy , this was only released in a few countries in Europe and the United States. The first official international single was Return the Favor featuring Timbaland . Other releases include Knock You Down , Make Love , Change Me featuring Akon , Turnin Me On featuring Lil Wayne and I Like .

background

Timbaland and Polow da Don looked over Hilson's shoulder while recording the album. However, she had started writing the songs and making the first recordings much earlier. She had written some songs for Nicole Scherzinger 's planned solo album , which never came out. Lil Wayne , Keyshia Cole , Trina , Timbaland, Kanye West , Ne-Yo , Akon and Nicole Scherzinger worked on Hilson's album. Among other things, has Justin Timberlake a song contributed ( Slow Dance ).

Charts and chart placements

In a Perfect World… was particularly successful in the USA and New Zealand (gold status in the USA). In Germany, the album only made it into the charts after the new edition (I-Like Edition). The most successful single in Germany was the song I Like , which even received the platinum award in Germany.

criticism

The album received mostly positive reviews. Keri's voice was rated positively in particular. The point of criticism was the production by Timbaland , which lacked innovations in the selection of the R&B numbers sung. Hilson was also confirmed to be able to take on the leading role in further collaborations.

The fact that Timbaland currently produces everything and everyone turns out to be a hindrance for his protégé: His distinctive synthesizer games threaten time and again to undermine Hilson's not-too-powerful voice. The debutante proves that she would be able to take command of a collaboration: After the first bars of “How Does It Feel” literally scream for a mediocre rap number, the accented warning to the better half emerges as the undisputed highlight in Hilson's perfect world. "

The album earned Hilson two Grammy nominations for "Best New Artist" and "Best Rap / Vocal Collaboration" (for the song Knock You Down - a collaboration with Kanye West and Ne-Yo ).
