Ina Balin

Ina Balin (* 12. November 1937 in Brooklyn , New York City as Ina Rosenberg ; † 20th June 1990 in New Haven , Connecticut ) was an American actress .

Life and accomplishments

Balin came from a Jewish family living in Brooklyn. She made her debut in an episode of the television series Kraft Television Theater from 1958. In the same year, she starred opposite Sophia Loren and Anthony Quinn in the film drama The Black Orchid .

In the career drama Von der Terrasse (1960), Balin was the girl Paul Newman ended up having. For this role she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Young Actress in 1961 . In the same year she was nominated for the Golden Laurel . For her role in the western The Comancheros (1961), in which she played alongside John Wayne , she received the Western Heritage Award in bronze in 1962 . On the side she ran an art gallery in New York City with a friend from 1961 to 1963 .

In 1964 she was a partner of Jerry Lewis in the self-directed slapstick comedy The Heulboje . In the Bible adaptation The Greatest Story of All Time (1965) Balin appeared on the side of Max von Sydow as Martha von Bethanien . In the Western Charro! (1969) she took on one of the leading roles alongside Elvis Presley . In the action film The Don Is Dead (1973) she was seen alongside Anthony Quinn . She also starred in numerous television series such as Quincy , where she appeared five times from 1977 to 1982, Bonanza , Your Appearance, Al Mundy , The Boss and Mannix . Her last film was the comedy That's Adequate in 1989 (with Bruce Willis and Tony Randall among others ) via a studio that also realizes absurd film ideas.

Ina Balin had already visited a military hospital in South Vietnam at the end of the 1960s . In 1970 she returned as part of a tour for the United Service Organizations and got to know the An Lac orphanage near Saigon . At the end of the Vietnam War , Ina Balin helped evacuate numerous orphans. She adopted three of them in 1976. In 1980 she wrote and produced a semi-documentary TV drama based on her experiences in Vietnam, in which she also played herself, The Children of An Lac .

Balin died of pulmonary hypertension at the age of 52 .
