The Infiniti LE is a concept car that the automotive manufacturer Infiniti presented at the New York Auto Show 2012. The name LE stands for Luxury and Electric. The company stated that the vehicle was a preliminary product and that a production model would appear in 2014.
The Infiniti LE is based on the platform of the Nissan Leaf , unlike this one, the electric motor should provide 100 instead of 80 kW . A lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 24 kWh or more is to be installed under the passenger compartment ; the range is to be around 160 km. According to more recent statements, the vehicle should be equipped with a 60 kWh NMC accumulator (nickel-manganese-cobalt oxide) and thus be able to achieve ranges of well over 300 km. The named source states 2018 as the year of publication.
For this purpose, the LE is particularly aerodynamically styled and equipped with specially shaped wheels, front spoiler and side skirts, which results in a low drag value of 0.25. The LE would be the brand's first front-wheel drive vehicle after the Infiniti I30 when the car goes into production.
A key feature of the LE is inductive wireless charging. The vehicle is charged by parking at a charging station instead of using a charging cable and socket. In addition, charging can also be carried out using a 50 kW DC charger.
In July 2013, Nissan chief responsible for global planning, Andy Palmer, said that the start of production of the LE was delayed a little because there were interesting advances in electric vehicle technology, such as new and more powerful lithium-ion batteries with an increased range and lower price, which one still wants to incorporate into the model.
