Ingeborg Jochum (born October 10, 1946 in Lech , Vorarlberg ) is a former Austrian ski racer . She achieved several victories and podium places in international races in the 1960s, became Austrian champion in giant slalom in 1966 and finished 21st in giant slalom at the 1966 World Cup . Her career was interrupted several times by injuries.

Career

From the beginning of the 1960s, Jochum achieved some successes in the youth field. She won the downhill run of the Austria Youth Cup in 1962 and 1963, was Austrian youth champion in downhill and slalom in 1962 in the youth class I and Austrian youth champion in giant slalom in 1964 in youth class II. In these years she also achieved top placements in international competitions. She achieved her first podium in an FIS-B race in 1962 as third in the giant slalom in Arosa ; in January 1963 she achieved tenth place in the giant slalom of the gold key races in Schruns , her first top 10 result in a strong A-race. A month later, the then 16-year-old suffered her first serious injury when she broke her leg in a fall in Innsbruck downhill .

During the winter of 1963/1964, Jochum came back to the top. In the second half of the season she celebrated victories in the downhill and combination of Abetone as well as in two giant slaloms and the combination of Arosa . At the beginning of the following winter 1964/1965, however, she suffered a second broken leg during downhill training in Bad Gastein , which is why this season came to an early end for her. After her second injury break, Jochum achieved several victories and podium places again towards the end of the 1965/1966 season. She became Austrian champion in giant slalom, won a giant slalom in Arosa, won downhill, slalom and combination in Hemsedal, Norway , and achieved third place in both slalom and combination at the Arlberg-Kandahar races in Mürren . This secured her a starting place for the 1966 World Cup , which was held in August in Portillo, Chile . There she was only used in the giant slalom, which she finished with a fall in 21st position.

When the World Cup was held for the first time in the winter of 1966/1967 , Jochum achieved two fourth places in the giant slaloms of Oberstaufen ( Staufenpokal ) and Vail and a fifth place in the downhill run from Franconia . She finished the first overall World Cup in twelfth place. In the summer of 1967, Jochum's career was interrupted again by a serious injury. In a traffic accident, she suffered a fractured thigh that resulted in a year-long break from racing. In the 1968/1969 season Jochum returned to racing again. Her best World Cup result that winter was sixth place in the giant slalom in Oberstaufen, and she was third in the giant slalom of the SDS races in Grindelwald , which is not part of the World Cup . However, since further top results were largely absent, Jochum ended her career after this season.
