Ink Music is an independent record label founded by Hannes Tschürtz in 2001 and based in Vienna . The company was responsible for the first releases of bands such as Bilderbuch or Ja, Panik as well as albums by Garish , Yasmo & die Klangkantine and Farewell Dear Ghost .

history

Founded in 2001, Ink Music was one of the first newly emerging indie labels in Vienna in the 2000s (including Living Room Records , Siluh Records, Seayou Records, Problembär Records , monkey music), which shaped a significant upswing in Austrian ( Indie) pop scene. Hannes Tschürtz described the unsuccessful search for a record company for the band Zeronic's debut album ( High Life , 2001), for which the band was nominated for an Amadeus Austrian Music Award (FM4 Award) the following year, as the reason for the foundation .

Schoenwetter records (2004-2015)

In 2004 Tschürtz, together with the members of the band Garish, launched the label schoenwetter Schallplatten under whose brand the publications of the company Ink Music, also active as an agency, were made from then on. The first release under this name came from the band Flashbax, from which the group Ja, Panik emerged. With their self-titled debut ( Ja, Panik , 2006) and the subsequent record The Taste And The Money (2007), the label also landed its first notable successes in neighboring countries. In 2007 the band members of Garish left the joint label operation.

In addition to Austrian productions, the label has also repeatedly released international artists: in 2008, British singer Christopher Taylor's album Pyramides was released under his stage pseudonym Trouble Over Tokyo, followed by The Hurricane in 2010 . Taylor later started a worldwide career under the new name Son . The label was also the springboard for the US songwriter Ezra Furman, whose album Inside The Human Body was licensed to Europe by schoenwetter records in 2008, as were the two subsequent albums Mysterious Power and The Year Of No Returning , before the artist was licensed by the British label Bella Union was signed.

Among the discoveries and developments of the label are Bilderbuch, who signed a contract at a young age in 2009 and published their debut Nelken und Schillinge and later its successor Die Pest im Piemont (2011) here.

The schoenwetter record brand has been discontinued since the end of 2015, and records have been released again or only under the core brand Ink Music since then.

Business activity apart from the label

In addition to its label activities, Ink Music is active in various areas of the music industry, especially in artist management (e.g. for Schmieds Puls or Leyya ) and in the area of concert mediation. Ink Music is a partner for the music business course initiated in 2015 at the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences , as well as advising companies and institutions. The annual C'est La Mü festival for music, literature and cabaret is organized together with Cselley Mühle Oslip .
