My Ugly Clementine is a rock band from Vienna , founded by Sophie Lindinger in 2019 , consisting of Mira Lu Kovacs , Kathrin Kolleritsch, Nastasja Ronck (since 2020) and Lindinger himself. The quartet deals with the themes of feminism, empowerment and equality. Due to the cast of personalities well known in Viennese music circles, the band was often referred to as a " supergroup " by local media at an early stage .

Lindinger gained fame primarily as a singer, copywriter and co-producer of the duo Leyya , with whom she had already won two Amadeus Awards ( 2017: FM4 Award , 2018: Best Alternative ) and toured internationally. Kovacs also won an Amadeus Award ( 2016: FM4 Award ) under her alter ego Schmieds Puls, which was used until 2019, and was successful as a singer in the avant-garde pop project 5K HD . Among other things, Kolleritsch worked as a drummer in Kovacs' band , appeared as the hip-hop MC Kerosin95 (among other things with rappers read rappers ) and in 2019 (with Paul Plut ) composed the music for Sara Ostertag's theater premiere Haummas net sche? in the Volx / Margareten.

While all the musicians were continuing their original projects, a founding myth about My Ugly Clementine developed early on: In an ironic reference to the band name, the quartet published a first photo of themselves on social media on Valentine's Day 2019 without any further context and declared their band's founding day the “Clementines Day ". At the first concert, scheduled for May 2019, the courier announced :

“My Ugly Clementine's first concert at Rhiz in Vienna was sold out within a day. And that, although up to this day no one had heard a note from the quartet. "

Finally, in March 2019, the debut single Never Be Yours was released and immediately after it was published it was named "Song of the Week" by the daily newspaper Die Presse and reached number 1 on the FM4 charts. Numerous invitations to live concerts were quickly issued: For example, the band opened for AnnenMayKantereit in the Vienna Arena during their second appearance in May 2019 and played in the summer of the same year. a. at Popfest , at the Poolbar Festival and at the Picture on Festival . With further published songs ( The Good The Bad The Ugly , Playground ) international festivals also became aware of the group, which led to performances and the like. a. at the Reeperbahn Festival , at Eurosonic Noorderslag or at Ment Ljubljana.

In early 2020, the band finally announced a full album entitled Vitamin C for March 2020 and a subsequent tour. The latter fell victim to the measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and was postponed to autumn 2020. The album, released by the Viennese label Ink Music , reached number 16 on the Austrian album charts.

The leading streaming provider Spotify subsequently took over My Ugly Clementine in its global newcomer program "Radar". The band also started their own podcast format "Peptalk" .

In June 2020, acoustic versions from a live session in February were released under the title "Peeled" , including an interpretation of Natasha Bedingfield's 2004 hit " Unwritten ".
