Innocenzo Del Bufalo de 'Cancellieri (* 1565 or 1566 in Rome ; † March 27 or 29, 1610 there ; also Innocenzo del Bufalo-Cancellieri or Innocenzo del Bufalo ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

Origin and early years

He came from a originally from Pistoia coming patrician family and was the second child of Tommaso del Bufalo and his wife Silvia de 'Rustici. From January 1582 he studied philosophy, theology and law at the Collegio Romano, where he obtained a doctorate in law after defending his dissertation theses before Cardinal Marcantonio Colonna . His fellow student was the later Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini . Under the pontificate of Sixtus V he became a trainee lawyer at the courts of justice of the Apostolic Signature , and in 1586 he met as Abbreviator in the Apostolic Chancellery . He became vicar of Cardinal Domenico Pinelli , the archpriest of Santa Maria Maggiore . On October 19, 1590 he became governor of Narni and on May 28, 1591 governor of Benevento. He was appointed canon of the Vatican Basilica on August 28, 1594. From 1595 to 1598 he was Inquisitor in Malta and from July 15, 1598 Vice-Governor of Fermo.

Episcopate

On May 14, 1601 Innocenzo Del Bufalo de 'Cancellieri was appointed Bishop of Camerino . He was ordained bishop on May 20 of the same year in the Vatican basilica by Cardinal Mariano Pierbenedetti ; Co- consecrators were Napoleon Comitoli , Bishop of Perugia , and Tommaso Vannini , Bishop of Avellino . He became the house prelate of His Holiness and worked from June 14, 1601 to September 26, 1604 as nuncio in France. He then returned to Rome for health reasons.
