Insel is the fourth studio album from July . It was released on October 3, 2014.

History of origin

After the last concerts of the previous album In Love , the band withdrew almost completely from the public for more than two years, as they did in 2008/09. According to the band members, work on a fourth album began at this time, around the beginning of 2012. In contrast to its predecessor, electronic elements were largely dispensed with this time. Since almost all band members had moved to Berlin in the meantime and some of them had set up their own recording studios there, this allowed them to organize their time more freely than before.

In the summer of 2013, the band went on a houseboat trip together on the Mecklenburg Lake District , where they played music together and also recorded the album artwork and the music video for the first single Insel .

Reviews

Kristina Bischoff from NDR2 praised “the balance between up-tempo wake-ups and songs that offer attentive listening” , but stated that the album as a whole remained “a bit monotonous and dreary” .

Felix Reek said in the section record cabinet of the Süddeutsche Zeitung : "Your new album" Insel "is the return to the melancholy pop of the beginning with this fragile voice that still sounds more like the student girl than the new Berliner. [...] Musically it reminds me of the euphoric of Coldplay and then of the lively one of Frida Gold. "

Kai Butterweck wrote for laut.de that the band Juli stands "on their own island: with largely clichéd texts and sound symbioses of pop, electro and rock arranged with great attention to detail - combined into a homogeneous whole."

Marius Meyer from alternativmusik.de stated: “The 12 pieces on the album mesh perfectly and the album is a logical continuation of the previous work of July. [...] Perhaps the most rounded work of the band to date and one with which they ensure that their journey is far from over. "
