The association Inssan for cultural interaction e. V. was launched in 2001 in Berlin and formally founded as an association on October 25, 2002. Since July 1, 2011 the association has been called “Inssan e. V. ". Its aim is to "promote the development of a German-speaking Islam ".

society

Members

The mosque association "Inssan" (Arabic إنسان for "man") is multiethnic and according to its own information has members from Germany , Morocco , Turkey , Bosnia , Egypt , Yemen , France , Tunisia , India , Palestine , Jordan , Russia and Algeria . It has about forty, mostly student members. Two out of four Inssan's board members are former members of the Muslim Youth Germany (MJD). In October 2004, an advisory board was founded, including Barbara John . Inssan's business premises are on Gitschiner Straße in the immediate vicinity of MJD and Islamic Relief , with whom Inssan also works on projects.

activities

Inssan's activities include a campaign against forced marriage , an “ISL'AMOUR” competition for the most beautiful Muslim marriage stories in July 2005, lectures with the Catholic Academy on the subject of “Nonviolence in the Name of God” in October 2004, the environmental protection campaign “Multiculturalism pro Natur ”2004, a day of action against leukemia, football games pastors against imams in 2006 and 2007 or a neighborhood campaign for the sugar festival in 2006. Inssan would also like to work on a training project for Berlin imams. The association caused a sensation in 2006 with the “Inssan Festival”, at which pop Muslim Sami Yusuf and ex-MTV presenter and Muslim convert Kristiane Backer performed. Inssan is a member of the Berlin Muslims Initiative (IBMUS), which is also publicly involved in the headscarf judgment and the cartoon controversy.

In August 2012 Inssan founded the network against discrimination against Muslims together with the Anti-Discrimination Network Berlin (ADNB), which is supported by the Turkish Association of Berlin-Brandenburg . The aim of this is to use an empowerment approach to “increase the awareness of those affected that they are citizens of this state with equal rights, and to show them options for action in the event of discrimination.” In February 2012, the network published a brochure with an initial assessment pulls. The project manager of the network against discrimination and Islamophobia, Zeynep Çetin, sharply criticizes the practice of the state of Berlin, on the basis of the neutrality law, to transfer teachers who want to teach with religious headscarves to vocational schools .

Mosque construction project

Neukölln

The originally planned meeting center in Berlin-Neukölln was to consist of various facilities such as a mosque , an academy, a youth club, a women's center, a restaurant, a media room and a multifunctional hall. The construction costs of around ten million euros were to be covered by donations from almost 40 mosque associations in Berlin and potential donors in Kuwait , Dubai and other Gulf states. The culture and mosque center will also accommodate a mosque for 1,000 believers on an area of around 6,000 square meters. Ibrahim El-Zayat , who is said to have supported the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood , acted as the authorized representative of the property in Pflügerstrasse intended for the meeting center . In June 2007 the construction project finally failed before the administrative court . The judges found the project too big for a residential area. The property was then offered for sale again.

Charlottenburg

Since 2007 there have been plans to build a mosque with a dome and minaret for 700 believers in Charlottenburg's Keplerstrasse not far from Mierendorffplatz . The building application should be submitted in August 2007 and the start of construction was planned for 2009. With 4800 square meters of usable space, the building project is half the size of the facility planned in Pflügerstrasse. A third of the donations for the new project should also be collected in Germany, the rest should be financed by sponsors from Arab countries. In February 2008, the district had requested an assessment from Interior Senator Ehrhart Körting ( SPD ) on the Inssan association, who replied that there were no security concerns about the association. A traffic report requested by the district office from the association for the mosque was also positive. In April 2008, the building city council informed the Inssan association that, for reasons of building law , it could not issue a preliminary building permit, since the development plan for the industrial area around Mierendorffplatz did not include rooms for religious or social use . Others consider these reasons to be advanced. The decision was a political one and was made under pressure from the Berlin regional association of the CDU and its “Mosque Buildings Working Group”.

criticism

Stefanie Vogelsang, City Councilor of Neukölln, is critical of the association's contacts with the Islamic Community in Germany (IGD) and its president Ibrahim El-Zayat , who bought the 360,000 euro building plot in Neukölln for Inssan in 2002. “An association that only has forty mainly student members would hardly have been able to pay this amount itself.” She worries about the independence of the cultural center in terms of content from its financial sponsors: “Name anyone, give me someone who gives me 15– If you donate 20 million and I have no conditions for it, I will go straight to it. ”At the request of the Berliner Morgenpost , the Berlin Office for the Protection of the Constitution confirmed that Inssan had indications of personal and organizational connections to the Islamic Community in Germany, which is monitored by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, which has the largest number of members Organization of the Muslim Brotherhood in Germany.

The citizens' initiative “People on Mierendorffplatz” accuses Inssan was founded in November 2002 as an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood because after September 11, 2001 other organizations close to the Muslim Brotherhood, such as the IGD, fell into disrepute. The mosque construction project in Neukölln was planned by the IGD and financed by the "Europe Trust" of the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe (FIOE) even before Inssan was founded. The cooperation with Yusuf al-Qaradawi announced by Inssan members and the identity of the major donors from FIOE and Inssan also speak in favor of belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood movement .
