The Inter-Interfrigo SA (ICF) was an international logistics service provider . The company, with its operational headquarters in Basel and legal headquarters in Brussels , specialized in European unaccompanied combined transport .

Since the strategic realignment in the mid-2000s, the core business has been freight traffic between Switzerland and Austria and the seaports of Antwerp , Rotterdam , Bremerhaven and Hamburg , long-haul traffic between Central Europe and Eastern and Southeastern Europe , freight traffic within Eastern and Southeastern Europe and container traffic with the CIS countries . For this purpose, Intercontainer-Interfrigo had a fleet of around 2,300 rail cars . The company was registered in Switzerland with the Federal Office of Transport as a railway company or "Operator Kombiverkehr".

Intercontainer-Interfrigo employed around 100 people and achieved a turnover of 140 million euros in 2007 with a traffic volume of 415,800 standard containers . The traffic volume was split roughly halfway between traffic to and from the seaports and pure mainland traffic.

history

The company was founded in 1967 by European railway companies under the name Intercontainer in the legal form of a cooperative . When the Interfrigo cooperative, founded in 1949, was taken over in 1993 , the company was renamed Intercontainer-Interfrigo . In 2003 Intercontainer-Interfrigo was transformed into a public limited company under Belgian law.

On November 26, 2010, the liquidation of the company was resolved with the aim that the existing offer of 145 weekly trains will be continued by the buyer. In August 2013, the closure of the operational headquarters in Basel was entered in the commercial register.

Takeover by other companies

In December 2010, the subsidiary of the Belgian rail freight operator SNCB Logistics Inter Ferry Boats (IFB) secured ICF's Southeast European business. This includes the connections from the western ports with Hungary , Romania and Turkey .

The western traffic was taken over on January 31, 2011 by the private Austrian IMS-Intermove Systems Speditions- und Transport GmbH . A subsidiary was founded in Switzerland to operate the routes between locations in Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria.

At the turn of the year 2010/2011, InterRail Services GmbH (IRS) Berlin took over the CIS container traffic of Intercontainer-Interfrigo SA, Basel, including the employees who specialize in this. The IRS is also the operator of the container block trains , which run under the name Ostwind twice a week between Germany and the CIS countries and Mongolia.

The shares of the ICF subsidiary Intercontainer Scandinavia , based in Gothenburg , were taken over in December 2010 by the Swedish investor Medströms Invest AB .
