International high-rise award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Highrise Award (own name; international name: International Highrise Award ) is an award that has been presented by the City of Frankfurt am Main since 2003 . The initiator of the award was the then director of the German Architecture Museum in Frankfurt, Ingeborg Flagge .

Modalities

The prize is awarded every two years worldwide for "buildings that are characterized by their special aesthetics, future-oriented design, urban integration, sustainability as well as innovative technology and economy". Only newly built high-rise buildings that are at least 100 meters high are permitted. Eligible to participate in the competition are planners, planning associations and other legal communities led by architects or engineers. Together with them, the clients are awarded.

The organizer of the selection process is the German Architecture Museum (DAM) in Frankfurt, the financial sponsor is DekaBank , which is also based in Frankfurt. The Hamburg company Emporis , which maintains an international database of high-rise buildings, is the advisor in the nomination process . The jury, which changes each time, consists of four internationally renowned architects, engineers or architecture critics selected by DAM and DekaBank, as well as one representative each from DekaBank, the city of Frankfurt and DAM.

The International High-Rise Award is endowed with 50,000 euros as well as a statuette made of titanium metal by the artist Thomas Demand and a certificate. The jury can award up to four additional, non-endowed, recognitions, so that a maximum of five finalists are possible. On the occasion of the award ceremony, a catalog is published that introduces the award winners.
