Ioan Almăşan (born June 22, 1962 in Lovrin ) is a former Romanian football goalkeeper and coach . He denied 187 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A .

Career

Ioan Almăşan began playing football in Tomnatic , a neighboring town to his birthplace Lovrin. In 1984 he moved to Unirea Sânnicolau Mare , which at that time in the third-highest division, the Divizia C , took. A year later, the leading association of the district Timis, took him Politehnica Timişoara under contract, which in the Divizia A played. There he came on September 22, 1985 for his first appearance in the highest Romanian football league. Since Almăşan could not prevail at "Poli" at first, he returned in 1986 for a season to Sânnicolau Mare.

In 1987 Almăşan made a new attempt at Poli and became a regular player, but could not prevent relegation at the end of the 1987/88 season . After the direct resurgence, he developed - apart from the 1990/91 season to a constant in the goal of Poli and achieved the greatest success of his career in 1992 when he reached the cup final . Yet it a European Cup application was denied: in the UEFA Cup in 1990/91 he had in the four games the verge of Jiul Petrosani committed Dumitru Jipa make room and at the games in the UEFA Cup in 1992/93 was Petrişor Toma , the Poli before Season of Dunărea Călărași had brought in goal. In contrast to Jipa and Toma, Almăşan remained loyal to the club when they were relegated again in 1994 . Also this time the immediate ascent succeeded. After he was less used in the 1996/97 season and Poli had to start again in the second division, Almăşan temporarily ended his career in 1997. He tried his luck in the United States , but returned to his Romanian homeland after six months.

In 1998 he got the opportunity to continue his career again at the age of 36 by signing a contract with UM Timișoara in Divizia C. With UMT, he experienced the most successful period in the club's history, in which the club not only achieved promotion to Divizia B in 1999, but even made it into Divizia A two years later. After relegation in 2002 Almăşan hung up his football boots and traveled to the USA again. There he worked in the construction industry in the interior design sector and took part in private soccer tournaments with other Romanians in exile.

After he worked as a goalkeeping coach in Divizia B at Unirea Sânnicolau Mare , Almăşan was the successor of the dismissed Ciprian Urican in the position of head coach in early April 2006 . He could no longer prevent relegation as the bottom of the table in the 2005/06 season in League III . In the summer of 2006 Ioan Petcu took over the coaching position of the third division team and left the club in the summer of 2008 after the sporting promotion to League II was destroyed by the sale of the starting place to FCM Târgu Mureş . Almăşan was next to Nicolae Căprărescu assistant coach under Petcu's successor Dan Stupar . He also remained an assistant coach when Căprărescu, now promoted to head coach, gave up his post to Petre Vlătănescu in November 2009 . After his contract expired in February 2010, he was initially not offered any further involvement in the football field and returned to the construction industry as a worker. In autumn 2010 he received an offer from Millenium Giarmata in League III, but the setting failed due to the economic situation of the club. At the same time, Almăşan wrote a guide for goalkeeping coaches, which could not be published by March 2011 due to a lack of financial support.
