Irina Pavlovna Saruzkaya
Irina Pavlovna Saruzkaja ( Russian Ирина Павловна Заруцкая ; born October 30 . Jul / 12. November 1908 greg. In Moscow , † 2. February 1990 ibid) was a Soviet Geomorphologin , cartographer and high school teacher .
Life
Saruzkaja, daughter of the architect Pawel Alexandrowitsch Saruzki , studied at the University of Moscow (MGU) in the Department of Soil Science , Geology and Geography of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics , graduating in 1931 as a geomorphologist.
After graduation, Saruzkaja carried out topographical fieldwork in the Moscow and Belgorod Oblasts , in the Southern Urals , in Siberia , the Far East and other regions of the USSR . For the construction of the Moscow-Volga Canal , she took in 1932 the Moscow River - basin topographically on. 1934-1937 she worked in the Science editorial of cartography - Trusts of Geodesy -Hauptverwaltung. She was involved in the beginnings of the topographic map on a scale of 1: 100,000, for which she was honored as an award winner in geodesy and cartography.
During the German-Soviet War , Saruzkaja was busy drawing up the state map on a scale of 1: 1,000,000. After the war, she was the chief editor of the mapping department of the Central Administration for Geodesy and Cartography for the creation of the hypsometric map of the USSR on a scale of 1: 2,500,000. From 1951 she created a series of maps for higher schools.
From 1951 Saruzkaja taught at the MGU in the Faculty of Geography. In 1953 she got a position at the chair for geodesy and cartography. With her leading involvement, complex regional atlases of the Irkutsk , Qostanai and Tyumen oblasts and the Aqmola and Altai regions were created . She worked with Konstantin Alexejewitsch Salishchev . In 1955 she successfully defended her dissertation on methods of displaying relief on hypsometric maps for her doctorate as a candidate in geographic sciences. In 1966 she successfully defended her doctoral dissertation on thematic maps of nature for her doctorate in geographic sciences in 1967. She was then appointed professor . She participated in many international conferences and worked on commissions of the International Cartographic Association . After finishing teaching, she was an advisor to the Institute of Geography of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR .
