Isidor Meyer first attended secondary schools in Schwyz and Freiburg as well as the Ecole industrial in Lausanne before completing a language stay in Milan . Following this, Meyer was employed in his father's post horse keeper at a young age and ran a trading business. After all, between 1886 and 1932 he managed the Hotel Meyerhof in Hospental.

Isidor Meyer also held directorships at Furka-Oberalp-Bahn and for many years at the Ursern electricity company, which he co-founded in 1902. Meyer also acted as a bank advisor at Urner Kantonalbank from 1920 to 1940 , of which he was president from 1938.

Isidor Meyer also worked in the Association for History and Antiquities of Uri and in the Historical Association of the Five Places and made a name for himself as the author of numerous historically important works.

Isidor Meyer, who remained unmarried, died on February 22, 1944 at the age of 84 in Andermatt. He was the grandson of Talammann von Ursern and innkeeper Franz Josef Julius Meyer .

At the beginning of his political career, Isidor Meyer, a member of the Catholic Conservative Party, was employed as a mediator, civil registrar and community clerk. He then officiated at the municipal level from 1892 to 1896 as orphan bailiff and from 1901 to 1902 and 1905 to 1906 as Mayor of Andermatt. At the same time, he acted as Talschreiber from 1896 to 1899 and from 1902 to 1906 and 1910 to 1912 as Talammann von Ursern . In addition, Isidor Meyer was a member of the higher court between 1896 and 1904.

At the cantonal level, Isidor Meyer was initially represented in the Uri District Administrator from 1898 to 1915 , of which he was President between 1904 and 1905. As Finance Director, Isidor Meyer successfully negotiated with the Swiss Federal Railways about water rates and with the federal government about the Alpine road contributions. During his tenure, after the collapse of the Gotthard traffic, there was an economic reorientation of the high valley towards tourism development, the rise of Andermatt as an arsenal and the recovery of the canton's finances, which had been weakened by the crisis in the savings fund. Meyer was the first Mayor of Uri from Ursern. Through his work, the traditional antagonism between Uri and Ursern was reduced.
