action

The attractive widow Jane Osgood tries to earn a living for herself and her children Billy and Betty as a lobster breeder in Cape Ann , Maine . It is a severe blow for Jane when the regional railroad company Eastern & Portland Railroad fails to deliver a shipment of lobsters on time and loses her best customer.

Together with her lawyer friend George Denham, she takes action against the profitable and ruthless new management of the railroad under her chairman Harry Foster Malone. When the railway company refuses to settle their claims for damages, Jane unceremoniously has one of the railway company's trains seized.

Their struggle arouses media interest, and Jane is even invited to appear on television networks in New York . The public follows every new move that Malone makes against Jane, but Jane doesn't let herself get down. Finally, Malone ensures that trains no longer stop at Cape Anne, from which the entire population suffers.

Because of her newfound fame, there are many orders for Jane's lobsters. Together with George and the whole village, she succeeds in getting the seized steam train afloat again in order to deliver the ordered lobsters.

After many unsuccessful maneuvers, Malone gives in and even helps personally to get the train to its destination on time. While driving, George Denham confesses his love to Jane and she accepts his proposal.
