Józef Piotr Kupny (born February 23, 1956 in Groß Dombrowka / Dąbrówka Wielka , Piekary Śląskie ) is a Polish clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Wroclaw .

Life

The Bishop of Katowice , Herbert Bednorz , ordained him a priest on March 31, 1983 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on December 21, 2005 titular bishop of Vanariona and auxiliary bishop in Katowice. The Archbishop of Katowice, Damian Zimoń , donated him episcopal ordination on February 4, 2006 ; Co- consecrators were Stefan Cichy , Bishop of Legnica , and Wiktor Skworc , Bishop of Tarnów . As a motto he chose Christ dilexit nos .

On May 18, 2013, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Wroclaw. The inauguration took place on June 16 of the same year.

Józef Kupny is Grand Officer of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .

In the Polish Bishops' Conference he is a member of the permanent council, chairman of the council for social affairs, delegate for Catholic movements and associations.
