Stefan Cichy (born March 30, 1939 in Przyszowice in the powiat Gliwicki , Silesian Voivodeship , Poland ) is Bishop emeritus of Legnica (Liegnitz) .

Life

Stefan Cichy entered the seminary in Kraków in 1957 . Ordained a priest on June 23, 1963 by Coadjutor Bishop Herbert Bednorz , he studied at the Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Cracow from 1967 to 1971 and then at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in theology in 1974 . From 1975 he was professor of liturgy at the seminary in Cracow and from 1980 in Katowice . From 1980 to 1992 he was the rector of the seminary in Katowice.

On August 26, 1998 Pope John Paul II appointed Stefan Cichy auxiliary bishop in Katowice and titular bishop of Bonusta ; he received episcopal ordination on September 12, 1998 from Damian Zimoń , the archbishop of Katowice; Co- consecrators were Stanisław Szymecki , the Archbishop of Białystok , and Wiktor Skworc , the Bishop of Tarnów .

His motto is: Per Crucem ad Lucem , “Through the cross to the light”.

On August 26, 1998, Archbishop Damian Zimoń appointed him his vicar general .

In the Polish Bishops' Conference he is a member of the Commission for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments, from 2001 to 2011 he chaired this commission.

On March 19, 2005 he was appointed Bishop of Liegnitz and on April 30, 2005 he was introduced to his diocese in the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul in Liegnitz.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on April 16, 2014.
