history

Since 1690 the Jewish cemetery of Blieskastel was the central burial place for the Jews from Homburg , St. Ingbert , Zweibrücken , Gersheim and Medelsheim . In 1821 the mayor's office in Blieskastel reported to the regional commissioner in Zweibrücken about burials of residents from Homburg, Gersheim, Zweibrücken- Bubenhausen and Webenheim . Since not only local residents were buried in the cemetery, it was emphasized at the time that it would be advisable in future for the deceased of the Jewish communities there to be established in Homburg and Zweibrücken. During the National Socialist era , the cemetery was devastated in 1939/40. In 1945 it was restored.
