Jürgen Baumann

Jürgen Baumann (born June 22, 1922 in Essen , † November 26, 2003 in Tübingen ) was a German legal scholar and FDP politician.

The merchant's son attended the Züllichau pedagogy until he graduated from high school in 1940 and then served in the Wehrmacht until the end of the war . After studying law and economics at the University of Münster in Westphalia from 1946 to 1952, he established himself as a lawyer in 1953. At the same time he continued his activities at the University of Münster (1951 as a research assistant , from 1955 as a private lecturer ) until his appointment to Tübingen.

From 1959 until his retirement in 1988 he was a full professor at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . Together with Claus Roxin and Werner Maihofer , he was one of the authors of the 1967 “Alternative Draft for Criminal Law, General Part”, which fundamentally reformed the previous criminal law of the Federal Republic of Germany . His numerous students include the former constitutional judge Christine Hohmann-Dennhardt and the lawyer and screenwriter Fred Breinersdorfer .

He was also a legal adviser to the FDP.

As such, he was appointed Senator of Justice by Berlin's Governing Mayor Klaus Schütz in 1976 . He continued this office after Schütz resigned and moved to Dietrich Stobbe .

After Till Meyer's attempt at liberation on May 27, 1978 from the Moabit correctional facility, Baumann drew political conclusions from his flight and resigned from his office on July 3, 1978. His successor was Gerhard Moritz Meyer (FDP). From 1969 to 1990 he was a member of the Advisory Board of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation .

He then largely withdrew from politics and returned to science.
