Jürgen Tietz

Jürgen Tietz (* 1964 in Berlin ) is a German architecture critic , publicist and moderator . Dealing with modern buildings is a focus of his work.

Life

After graduating from high school and training as a bookseller , Tietz studied art history , classical archeology and prehistory and early history at the Technical University of Berlin and the Free University of Berlin . He wrote his master's thesis on the redesign of the Neue Wache by Karl Friedrich Schinkel in the 20th century. He wrote his dissertation on the Tannenberg National Monument . Tietz works as a freelance book author and critic for architecture and monument preservation in Berlin. He writes in daily newspapers and specialist magazines . He mainly publishes in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) and the db deutsche bauzeitung . In addition, he regularly writes articles for exhibition catalogs and moderates events on current issues of architecture and monument preservation. Since 2007 he has been a member of the public relations working group of the German National Committee for Monument Protection . He is or was a member of the design advisory boards of the cities of Fulda (since 2012) and Darmstadt (2014–2017) as well as the Hamburg Monument Council . Tietz is married and has three children.
