Jacksonville is a city in Cherokee County in the US state of Texas .

The city is located at the intersection of US Highway 69 with US Highway 79 in northeast Cherokee County in east Texas and has a total area of ​​36.6 km² without any significant water surface. history

The first settlement began in 1847 on the east bank of Gum Creek . Jackson Smith built a house and a forge here and also became postmaster of the Gum Creek Post Office a year later . It was through him and another settler named Jackson that the name Jacksonville was formed for the place in 1850. The International Great Northern Railroad moved its tracks a few kilometers away in 1872 and in the same year most residents moved to the vicinity of the railway line and took over the place name.
