Jacob Burtschi (born May 21, 1984 in Chickasha , Oklahoma ) is an American basketball player . Burtschi began his professional career late at the age of 26, having previously served as an officer in the United States Air Force . After a premier season in 2010/11 with the German first division club Phoenix from Hagen , he was briefly under contract in Zaragoza , Spain , before returning to the basketball league and playing for the Skyliners from Frankfurt am Main during the 2013/14 season .

College and military service

Originally from Oklahoma , Burtschi moved from Putnam City High School in 2003 to study at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs . Here he was active for the Falcons university team and was able to celebrate the most recent phase of this otherwise unsuccessful university team in basketball with this team. For the first time since the early 1960s, the team was able to qualify twice for the national finals . In the first round, however, they lost each to the favored Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 2004 and the Fighting Illinois of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign 2006, whose basketball teams regularly qualify for the finals. In his senior year 2007 as First Classman , the Falcons and Burtschi reached the semifinals in the National Invitation Tournament in their only participation to date. Despite losing in the semifinals against the Tigers of Clemson University , this is considered the greatest success of the basketball team of the Falcons . After his fourth season in college, Burtschi's career in the NCAA ended . Due to the above-average number of "Post Season" final rounds of the Falcons, Burtschi is the player with the most games and most wins in the Falcons basketball jersey of all time, and he also holds the top scores for ball wins with the Falcons. Although he had offers to play basketball professionally, he stayed with the Air Force for three more years, serving as the commander of a missile defense squadron in Colorado Springs.

Professional career in Europe

In 2010 Burtschi signed a contract as a professional basketball player and went to Phoenix Hagen in the German basketball league . There he won the three-point throwing competition at the Beko BBL All-Star-Day 2011 . In his first season he was able to convince with a good 14 points and almost 7 rebounds per game and, together with a good three-point throw rate of a good 44% and the team's best value of 1.6 ball wins per game, delivered a “complete package”. For the 2011/12 season he therefore moved to the Spanish ACB league for CAI Zaragoza . There he could not assert himself, however, and left the club in mid-December 2011 to replace Jon Leuer , who had migrated to the NBA , at the Frankfurt Skyliners . For the 2012/2013 season he moved within the league and received a one-year contract with Eisbären Bremerhaven . After the polar bears clearly missed the PlayOffs, Burtschi's contract was not extended and he returned to the Fraport Skyliners in Frankfurt. There received a contract with a term of 2 years. During the 2013/14 season, Burtschi had to undergo a disc operation and was out for a few weeks. After the end of the season, he said he still had problems with his back. Because of this and other private problems, he decided to suspend his contract with the Fraport Skyliners for the time being. In February 2015, Fraport Skyliners received a one-month contract to represent the injured Danilo Barthel .
