Osborne's greatest career success was in the service of the Adirondack Red Wings when he won the Calder Cup of the American Hockey League in 1981.

Career

Mark Osborne completed three seasons in his youth between 1978 and 1981 for the Niagara Falls Flyers in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League and the Ontario Hockey League . At the end of his second season for the Flyers, he was selected in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft in the third round at a total of 46th position by the Detroit Red Wings . For the Red Wings he was active in two seasons from 1981 to 1983, before he was transferred to the New York Rangers on June 13, 1983 together with Mike Blaisdell and Willie Huber .

The winger had his most successful season with the Rangers in the 1985/86 NHL season , when he and his team reached the Prince of Wales Conference finals. There the "Blueshirts" lost to the eventual Stanley Cup winner Montréal Canadiens in the best-of-seven series after five games with 1: 4. After 58 games in the following season , Mark Osborne was released on March 5, 1987 together with Jeff Jackson in exchange for a third-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 1989 to the Toronto Maple Leafs .

After three and a half seasons for the Leafs, Osborne was transferred again on November 10, 1990. Together with Ed Olczyk , he was sent to the Winnipeg Jets . Toronto received the players David Ellett and Paul Fenton in return . For the Jets, however, the striker ran across the seasons in only 80 games before he was transferred back to the Toronto Maple Leafs on March 10, 1992 in exchange for Lucien DeBlois . In his second engagement in Toronto, he lost two times in a row with his team in the conference finals: 1993 in the Campbell Conference finals against the Los Angeles Kings , and in 1994 in the Western Conference finals against the Vancouver Canucks .

Following this, Mark Osborne signed a contract with the New York Rangers, for which he was active for a season and then ended his NHL career. He then worked as a player- coach for the Cleveland Lumberjacks from the International Hockey League , and from 1998 to 2000 as an assistant coach for the Ontario Hockey League club Toronto St. Michael's Majors .
