Jacobus Duivenvoorde

Jacobus Duivenvoorde MSC , also Jaap Duivenvoorde , (born November 15, 1928 in Heemskerk , † November 16, 2011 in Tilburg ) was a Dutch religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Merauke .

Life

Jacobus Duivenvoorde joined the congregation of the Sacred Heart Missionaries on September 21, 1949 and was ordained a priest on September 5, 1954 in Stein . Two years later he became a missionary in Dutch New Guinea . He was the ministerial leader and secretary of Bishop Herman Tillemans MSC, Vicar Apostolic of Merauke. He accompanied the establishment of the Archdiocese of Merauke and succeeded Archbishop Herman Tillemans MSC in office.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on June 26, 1972 Archbishop of Merauke in Indonesia . The retired Archbishop of Merauke, Herman Tillemans MSC, donated him episcopal ordination on October 1, 1972 ; Co- consecrators were Herman Ferdinandus Maria Münninghoff OFM , Bishop of Djajapura , and Petrus Malachias van Diepen OESA , Bishop of Manokwari .

He was a member of the Indonesian Bishops' Conference. In 2000, together with Leo Laba Ladjar OFM, Bishop of Jayapura, he got involved with the Indonesian President, Abdurrahman Wahid , for a commitment to peace and justice for the population due to the Papua conflict ( organasi Papua Merdeka ). In 2003 he signed a declaration of urgency by the Indonesian bishops to Kofi Annan , Secretary General of the United Nations , on the occasion of the 2003 Iraq war .

On April 30, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation; he lived in Tilburg, the Netherlands, and died of complications from lung cancer.

Jacobus Duivenvoorde was a Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion .
