Jacques Guyonnet (born March 20, 1933 in Geneva ; died May 18, 2018 there ) was a Swiss composer , conductor and writer .

biography

Jacques Guyonnet studied at the Faculty of Literature and the Conservatory in Geneva. In addition, he attended international summer courses on new music in Darmstadt (1958/1960) and lessons in composition and conducting with Pierre Boulez (1959–1964).

In 1957 he founded the Studio Musique Contemporaine de Genève (SMC), an association for concerts, inspired in its beginnings by the Domaine musical , directed by André de Blonay. Guyonnet animated musical life in Geneva for a quarter of a century; In 1983 he suggested the dissolution of SMC.

In 1962 he published the article "J'accuse Ernest Ansermet" (German: "I accuse Ernest Ansermet "). He is the "murderer" of a whole generation of composers. The two published pages sparked polemics across the city and were received by various musicologists and philosophers, including Jean-Claude Piguet .

1963 Guyonnet received his certification as a diving instructor .

In 1964 he was musical advisor for Expo 64 , the Swiss national exhibition in Lausanne . In the same year he opened the ART studios (audio and video), which he converted in 2001 with Geneviève Calame and Chris Pennyscate into MIDI, computer science and virtual creation . Here he trained Peter Greenwood, Jacques Lacour and Christian “Wicked” Wicht in the areas of audio, video and IT.

Between 1964 and 1969 he gave concerts and courses and taught in the USA. He gave courses by name at the universities of New York, Buffalo and Illinois. He also completed a concert tour with the soloist ensemble of Lukas Foss , with a final concert in Carnegie Hall in New York.

He created various works under the name “Jacques Olivier”, including the film music for La Lune avec les Dents (1966) and Haschich (1967) by Michel Soutter , and Charles mort ou vif (1969) by Alain Tanner .

In 1972 Guyonnet married Geneviève Calame. The couple had two children.

In the course of his career he has been invited as chief conductor by several orchestras, including the Philharmonie Stuttgart (1972–1984), the Philharmonie Prague (1981) and the National Orchestra of Brazil (1984, Salle Cecilia Meireles in Rio de Janeiro ). He also taught at the Zurich University of Music (1981–1983).

From 1971 he was part of the Music Commission for the Four-Year Prize of the City of Geneva. In 1978 his election was canceled due to the intervention of a politician. At the international meeting in Tenerife in 1977 he was a delegate from Radio Suisse Romande . He chaired the SIMC from 1976 to 1981, as well as the Council of Europe's Music Commission for the preparation of the “European Year of Music” and he was also an expert for the Council of Europe from 1985 to 1987.

In 1993 his wife Geneviève Calame, who had worked closely with him, died in Mexico.

Guyonnet founded the publishing house «Éditions La Margelle» in 1999 and began a second career as a writer, with 32 novels and essays published . He published the online catalog of the SMC concerts (2010), a catalog of drivel with literary works (around 60 unpublished texts), electronic songs (from 2001 to 2013, 30 works and samples of electronic music), Le Jigéen with Alina Gomez ( 2013) and an online catalog of his work of linguistic creation in his novels. His musical oeuvre counts 63 compositions, which are arranged in a subject index.

He also led various other projects: a pilot course MUSINFO for the Ministry of Education with the support of the IRCAM / Center Pompidou (1970) with Giuseppe di Giugno, and he founded an academy AutreTerre (2012) which welcomed personalities from Switzerland and France.

Jacques Guyonnet died on May 18, 2018 in Geneva.
