Jah Cure (actually Siccaturie Alcock ) (born October 11, 1978 in Hanover , Jamaica ) is a Jamaican reggae musician .

Youth and career start

Siccaturie Alcock was born on October 11, 1978 in Hanover (Jamaica). He then grew up in Montego Bay , where he attended St. James High School. He was already enthusiastic about music as a teenager, attended dances in the neighborhood or the reggae sunsplash and wanted to become a reggae musician himself.

After moving to Kingston , he met artists like Sizzla , Jah Mason and Capleton who supported him. He became a Rastafarian after Sizzla introduced him to the world of Bobo Dreads . It was Capleton who gave him the stage name Jah Cure. Under the new name he had a few smaller appearances in Kingston and gained experience in smaller recording studios. It was in these circles that he was discovered by singer and producer Beres Hammond , who became his mentor.

Jah Cure's first major single was released in 1997. King in This Jungle was a Beres Hammond-produced duet with Sizzla that laid the foundation for Jah Cure's musical career. Many more songs followed and its popularity grew steadily. In 1998, Jah Cure toured Europe and the Caribbean at Beres Hammond's side.

"Jah Cure's melancholy melodies bring tears to your eyes even if you don't understand the lyrics," wrote reggae magazine Riddim .

Arrest and imprisonment

Jah Cure was arrested by police on November 16, 1998 and sentenced in April 1999 to 15 years in prison for illicit gun possession, armed robbery and rape .

During his imprisonment, a number of prominent musicians, including Sizzla, Capleton, Jah Mason, Buju Banton and Beres Hammond, declared their solidarity with Jah Cure, who had always protested his innocence and complained about inadequate evidence and litigation, which was based solely on the statement of the victim. Fans of the artist also started a solidarity campaign under the motto “Free Jah Cure”. On the other hand, one of the investigators entrusted with the case later stated that the evidence was so overwhelming that a DNA test was dispensed with, and the victim also emphasized in an interview in 2005 that he was absolutely certain of the identification. Other celebrities in Jamaica expressed their horror at the support Jah Cure received during this period.

In an appeal process , the sentence was reduced to 13 years. Two requests for parole ( parole ) were denied. On July 28, 2007, Jah Cure was paroled after eight years in prison.

Continuation of musical creation

Jah Cure had access to recording equipment in prison so that he could continue to play music while he was in prison. In August 2000 he released his debut album, Free Jah's Cure , which was released on J&D Records. In 2002, Danga Zone Entertainment began managing Jah Cure, who was still in prison at the time. In 2003 the album Ghetto Life was released , which was released on VP Records . 2004 was a particularly successful year for Jah Cure, as two singles, Jamaica and Longing for , reached number one in the Jamaican charts . In 2005 the next album followed with Freedom Blues , on which Sizzla was involved with a contribution and in which well-known producers also worked with Philip Burrell , Morgan Heritage and Beres Hammond. Jah Cure was one of the first to benefit from the government's Rehabilitation Through Music program in 2007 . A third application for early release was granted, and on July 28, 2007, Cure was released.

A few days later, on July 31, 2007, Jah Cure's fourth album True Reflections ... A New Beginning was released, which contained a track with Gentleman called Share the Love .

He gave his first concert after his imprisonment in August 2007 at Reggae Sundance in Eindhoven , where he headlined. Jah Cure played his first concert in Germany in 2008 at the Summerjam Festival in Cologne .

The 2009 album Universal Cure reached number two on the reggae album chart of the US Billboard magazine.
