Jakob Dietlof von Arnim (born January 13, 1645 in Sachsendorf ; † October 7, 1689 near Bonn ) was the Brandenburg colonel of the cavalry and major general, as well as captain zu Gramzow . He was also the heir to Boitzenburg and Nechlin .

Life

Career

The country, which was destroyed by the Thirty Years' War , offered few opportunities and therefore he came to the cadet corps in Kolberg in 1663 . There he was ensign in the forge regiment for two years . But this was dissolved and von Arnim was also dismissed. But in 1666 he volunteered at the siege of Bremen in the second Bremen-Swedish War . In 1668 he became an ensign in the Derfflinger Dragoon Regiment . There he was promoted to captain. When the Peace of Vossen was signed in 1673 , this regiment in Lippstadt was also dissolved again. His older brother Bernd fell as a captain in the Marwitz regiment at the end of January 1673 , so that he was now heir to the House of Lords in Boitzenburg.

He then went to Holland to fight the French. He took part in the siege of Naerden (now Naarden ) as a volunteer . He then became a Dutch major and was supposed to recruit a company. At the same time, Elector Friedrich Wilhelm banned foreign advertising in Brandenburg and offered von Arnim his own company. Therefore he returned to Brandenburg in 1674 and received the company there on August 1st. He immediately marched with her to Alsace . When the Swedes invaded in 1675 , he fought in Rathenow , in the Battle of Fehrbellin and was present at the sieges of Anklam and Wolgast . In September 1676 he was promoted to major and in September 1677 to lieutenant colonel. He then fought again on Rügen against the Swedes, where he took the Fährschanze.

When the Swedes invaded again in 1679, he was placed under Major General von Schöning and now fought in Prussia. The Swedes were driven back across the border to Lower Lithuania (Shamaites). After the peace treaty he returned to the quarters in Prussia with the remains of the regiment, where the regiment was also replenished. On January 22, 1683 he became a colonel and a short time later became the governor of Gramzow . In 1688 he led the Derfflinger dragoon regiment to Kleve to the army of Field Marshal von Schöning, where he commanded as major general in the fighting near Neuss . During the siege of Kaiserswerth (1688) he was twice on behalf of the Elector with Count Waldeck , the commanding officer of the Dutch. He then moved to France and back with the von Schöning army. He was already very exhausted when he arrived on September 13, 1689 for the siege of Bonn . In the camp he fell ill with the red dysentery , from which he died on October 7, 1689. His body was brought to Nechlin, where he was buried.

Origin and family

His parents were the Kurbrandenburg landscape director of the Uckermark Georg Wilhelm von Arnim (* 1612; † December 26, 1673) and his wife Barbara Sabine, born von Hohendorf (1620-1693) from the Falkenhagen family. The Brandenburg General Field Marshal Georg Abraham von Arnim was his brother.
